Fear Itself: Prologue

ever_lovinOne week ago...Sin, the daughter of the Red Skull, discovers a secret Nazi project from WW2 and begins a hunt for the ultimate weapon in order to conquer the world as her father failed to do.
Two days ago...Sin unearths the Hammer of Skadi at a secret Thule Society research facility deep in the Arctic wastes. When she grasps the hammer she becomes possessed by the goddess Skadi and sets about to free her father, a primordial Norse deity only know as the Serpent whose power centered on fear.
36 hours ago...Ben Grimm woke from the return of a disturbing dream, a dream in which he kills the other members of the Fantastic Four after their crash landing with his bare hands in revenge. He confesses this dream to Susan Richards and can't help the fear that part of him is capable of such a hideous act.
24 hours ago...Skadi frees the Serpent from his deep sea prison. The Serpent calls to his Worthy, the generals who fought with him before. In New York, a peaceful protest turns violent as someone hurls a brick at Steve Rogers.
18 hours ago...Deep Space telescopes chart incoming celestial objects heading for Earth.
12 hours ago...Ben walks out of the Baxter Building intending to take a few days off from his family and the villains Reed has invited into their home.
6 hours ago...Ben has tea with Alicia. Alicia tells Ben he has nothing to fear.
2 hours ago...Reed calls Ben as one of the seven recorded celestial objects which came from deep space has landed at the heart of Yancy Street. Thinking Ben would want a hand in investigating some thing which could be a threat, Reed invites Ben along. Ben agrees.

Date: 2012-02-20 07:01 pm (UTC)Ben stands at the edge of the crater the hammer fell. Reed stands with a bunch of equipment analyzing it with Bentley, one of the Future Foundation kids. Susan stands to the side with another analyzer.
"I mean, youse guys are already runnin' light, what with the human torch dyin' an' all."
"Shut up, guy," Ben says to trying to stay focused. The last thing he needs is getting into it with a hot dog vender.
"An' you got all dese things goin' wrong all over the world. I don' think you're gonna do it."
"Great."
"Seriously. Not gonna save us this time."
"Okay."
"Ben?" Reed calls out. "We'd like you to try moving it now."
"Yeah, Reed, anything to get me away from this jerk."
"Hey," the vender calls out to Ben's back, "you're the jerk that couldn't save the Human Torch! You suck, Grimm!"
Ben's jaw works but he doesn't say anything back. Still when he passes Reed he mumbles, "Thinking about trying out a little method lifting. S'it okay if I pretend it's that guy's neck?"
Ben, wait, not so..." Reed start to say as Ben reaches for the hammer.
"What's the...AAAHHH," Ben manages before there's a flash of light and flame. He feels the hammer call to him....

Date: 2012-02-20 07:03 pm (UTC)"Wha?" he asks and stumbles forward, pushing the curtains aside. Each step seems to make him dizzier, more confused and he can't find an exit. Finally, he finds a door behind the curtain and opens it to a hallway decorated just like the room and somehow he knows there's another room just up the hallway though it's behind the curtain.
He steps through into the room and sees his rocky self standing in a corner like a statue. Three steps into the room and the lights start strobing. The blood rushes through his body as his heart starts pounding. Sweat breaks out and he can't get a lung full of air. Fear takes hold of him as the statue moves. It looks up are him, lava in the eyes, and smiles.
Ben turns and runs from the room to the hallway to the other room to another hallway to another room, all the while he can feel and hear the heavy tread of the Thing that follows behind.

"Bow to Fear!" Angrir bellows in ancient Asgardian as he raises his hammer. "DIE!" he screams in the English his host speaks and stomps his foot causing a shock wave which levels buildings for a mile around.
